HIRING

EDITOR

Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico

Job Description:

Day’s Edge is seeking a full-time Editor to cut documentary stories that matter about the people, places, organisms, and ideas that make this world worth inhabiting and protecting. You’ll be editing primetime broadcast documentaries, starting with the third season of our PBS series Human Footprint, along with feature documentaries, shorts, web content and more. This is a senior role based at our new production and post-production hub in Albuquerque. We’re looking for an editor with at least five years of professional documentary editing experience, ideally including premium doc series, features, and shorts. You should be able to find the story in a mountain of footage, hold together the structure of a full hour, and work closely with producers, directors, and writers from first assembly to picture lock. We’re looking for New Mexico residents or people ready to relocate to New Mexico, and we’re happy to do remote interviews for candidates willing to make the move.

You bring:

  • At least five years of professional documentary editing experience. You have credits as sole or lead editor on finished, delivered programs. Broadcast doc TV series experience is a big plus.
  • Feature and short film experience. You’ve cut long-form and short-form, and you know how story works differently in each.
  • Strong story, structure, & pacing instincts. You can find the throughline in hundreds of hours of footage, and you’re comfortable writing documentary scripts and narration.
  • Deep fluency in Adobe Premiere Pro. Experience with DaVinci Resolve and After Effects is a plus. You understand proxies, codecs, media management, and delivery specs.
  • Openness to feedback and challenge. Our edits are collaborative, and good notes go in both directions.
  • Self-motivation. You manage your own time, hit delivery deadlines, and don’t need supervision to keep a cut moving.
  • Passion for science, natural history, technology, and culture. A science background is a plus, but not required.
  • We’re a small team and everyone wears several hats. We’re looking for someone excited by the creative work who’s equally willing to do the unglamorous parts of a big documentary production. If that sounds beneath you, this isn’t the job.
  • Curiosity about new tools. If you’re already using AI to take the grunt work off your plate, we want to hear about it.

What we’re offering:

  • A chance to edit premium documentaries (primetime series, features, and shorts) for major broadcasters, streamers, and beyond.
  • A chance to help build a new post-production hub from the ground up, with real influence over how we work.
  • A chance to be part of a team creating films that make a difference.
  • Competitive salary. New Mexico cost of living advantage.
